Wetherspoons locals get their boots on for charity

PUBGOERS in Mexborough pulled on their hiking boots to complete a sponsored walk in aid of a children’s charity.

About 30 regulars joined staff from The Old Market Hall in Mexborough for a 15-mile trek around the Dearne.

They took in the sights in Conisbrough, Hooton Roberts, Ravensfield, Thrybergh and Kilnhurst before heading back to the pub for a well earned rest and refreshments.

The event, held at the start of June, is expected to have raised around £2,000 for children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

It was the second sponsored walk organised by the pub, and last year’s raised the same amount of money for the charity.

Duty manager Simon Rawson said: “It was a great day out again and it was great to see so many of our loyal customers taking part.

“CLIC Sargent is a fantastic charity and we support them all year round.

“Aside from the sponsored walks, we have collections and fundraising days.

“We managed to raise about £5500 in total for them last year, and with the sponsored walk money we’ve raised about £3,000 so far this year.

“That’s a great achievement. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the walk and who has donated money.”
