5. Sir Thomas Crapper.
Thomas Crapper (1837-1910), from Doncaster, started a plumbing business in Chelsea in 1861 and pioneered some of the most revolutionary designs of sanitary engineering in the 19th century - particularly in developing the modern WC cistern. Photo: Science & Society Picture Librar
6. George Porter.
George Porter, From Doncaster, was instrumental in the setting up of Applied Photophysics, a company created to supply instrumentation based on his group's work.
