Roger Chapman is the singer best-known in Britain for his work with Family and the 70s r’n’b band Streetwalkers.

In the pre-punk era, Roger was an enormous cult figure on the British rock scene, famed for his spectacular showmanship and soaring vibrato. Back in the day, Family was an incredibly popular band that had numerous single and album hits, with a fan base that stretched across the globe.

Family were particularly known for their live performances with one reviewer describing the band as “one of the wildest, most innovative groups of the underground rock scene”, noting that they produced “some of the rawest, most intense performances on stage in rock history” and “that the Jimi Hendrix Experience were afraid to follow them at festivals”.

Roger formed “The Short List” in 1977 and the band are close to celebrating their 40th Anniversary. In that time whilst Roger has regularly worked in the UK and had successful album releases with “Chappo” and “Live In Hamburg” the band’s core success has been in Germany where Roger has received a number of television and radio awards reflecting his huge appeal in the Country culminating in his big hit single, an impassioned rendition of Mike Oldfield’s “Shadow On The Wall”.

In 2012, Roger decided that after a 40 year break the legendary Family would play live once more.

After announcing a one-off reunion, in February 2103, the band, featuring Roger Chapman, Poli Palmer, Rob Townsend and Jim Cregan, augmented by members of Roger’s solo band “The Short List”, played two nights to sell out audiences at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London.

Roger paid warm tributes to absent band members Rick Grech, Tony Ashton, Jim King, John Weider, John Wetton and Charlie Whitney and it turned out to be a celebratory concert, rich in memories for all present.

In a review of the reunion for Get Ready to Rock, Pete Feenstra’s opening statement said it all “Not just a reunion, more a polishing of the Family’s silver, ‘An Evening With Family’ proved what all die-hard fans always knew, Family made some timeless music”.

The Family box set, “Once Upon a Time”, won the Storm Thorgerson Grand Design award at the 2013 Progressive Music Awards, another example of Chappo’s standing in the international music scene.

With only a few selective gigs in 2014, don’t miss out on seeing this rock legend in his band The Short List - one things for sure, you won’t be disappointed.
