This was the opening date on The Wombats’ UK tour – and from start to end it was a night packed with energy, classic songs and noisy singalongs.

Sheffield’s O2 Academy was the venue for the first of six sold UK dates and the night started off with loud roars and applause from the crowd as they lit up the stage with sparklers to the intro of Moving To New York.

It was a party atmopshere throughout and songs like Let's Dance To Joy Division, perhaps one of the band’s best known tracks and Kill The Director saw half empty beer cups flying into the air as the band unleashed a set laced with infectious hooks and a dazzing display of power.

Fans were also given a treat as they performed the two latest songs from their new EP for the very first time, the two tracks being I Think My Mind Has Made Its Mind Up and Is This What It Feels Like To Feel Like This?

And Greek Tragedy saw the Sheffield crowd return every single lyric back to the Wombats as they were treated like, well, Greek gods on the Academy stage.

They were back onstage for the encore of Method to the Madness and finished the set with Turn which saw burst of confetti launched into the delighted crowd as mosh pits formed to match the high energy of each song.

It’s was great to see the energetic sound of the Wombats returned by the energy of the Sheffield crowd.

A simply stunning night.
