A POPULAR pub in Wombwell will be presented with Barnsley CAMRA’s Winter Pub of the Season award next week.
CAMRA judges described The Anglers’ Rest as a “great community local” with a homely feel, complete with wood-burning stove.
They praised licensee Simone Foster-Jowett for transforming the venue over the last two years.
In this time, she has introduced up to three local cask ales, alongside the permanent Black Sheep Bitter.
The pub also raises money for the Help for Heroes charity through a swear jar located on the bar.
Simone and the staff with be presented with their award by Barnsley CAMRA representatives on Friday, February 18.
A cheque presentation will also be made on the night to CAMRA’s chosen charity - the Barnsley Tykes.
Phil Gregg, Barnsley CAMRA’s pubs and clubs officer, said: “Simone has done a factastic job with the pub.
“It has a great atmosphere and good variety of beers.
“She and her staff thoroughly deserve the award and we are looking forward to presenting it to them.”
