FIVE youngsters who have grown up playing junior rugby at Doncaster Knights are kicking on in the sport - after earning Yorkshire call-ups.
Despite their tender years, prop Harry Wakeman (Hall Cross School), second rows Dan Robinson (Hungerhill) and Luke Rivers (Hayfield), fly half Tom Allott and utility back Will Burden have notched up almost 50 years service at Castle Park between them.
The quintet will represent Yorkshire under 15s against Cheshire and Lancashire this month.
“With the exception of Dan Robinson, all the boys began to play rugby from the age of five years old,” said Doncaster’s under 15s manager David White.
“Dan was a late starter and put his boots on when he was seven!
“The coaching and management team are extremely proud to have such a large contingent in the squad,” he added.
“It is recognition of all the hard work that has been put into the squad over the last ten seasons.”
Doncaster’s under 15s currently run a playing squad of 36 players, a quarter of whom have represented South Yorkshire over the last two seasons.
Head coach Colin Robinson added: “When we’re at full strength we are a match for any team in Yorkshire. We’re consistently ranked among the top four or five teams.”
Rivers and Allott have also been invited to train with Leeds Carnegie’s RFU-funded academy.
