With the new Championship season starting against Ealing Trailfinders a week on Sunday, Rotherham Titans’ skipper, Tom Holmes, has issued a blunt warning to his players.
“There are no easy games in this league and there isn’t a week when you are guaranteed a win.”
Holmes, about to begin his second full season at Clifton Lane, says Ealing will be hard opponents.
“They have recruited well and brought in players withexperience of the Premiership and Championship. This will be a tough game but we are confident we will win if we do our jobs properly.
“As a squad, we are in a positive place and even though we lost in the pre-season match at London Scottish, the score didn’t reflect the game.
“ We had 70 per cent of the possession, the scrums and line outs were highly competitive. There is stuff to work on, but we are making good progress.”
Rotherham’s squad - 14 new players have been signed - undergo a final series of fitness tests today before preparing for the last pre-season game at Loughborough University on Friday.
Holmes, meanwhile, is impressed with the overall quality of the squad and with the contributions of the new players.
“Flanker Tom Calladine, who has come from Nottingham, gets stuck in. Will Owen, the new centre from Moseley, is a cannon ball and I like the look of the other two new centres, Jack Hayes and Joe Barker.
“ Our Australian forward Tim Cree is also doing well.”
