Sheffield Eagles have made a major signing for next season with Super League forward Jamie Langley joining the club on a two year deal.

It also provides a statement of the club’s ambition as they limber up to face Featherstone Rovers the Championship play-off semi-finals on Sunday.

Langley, a prop or loose-forward, spent this season at Hull KR after 13 years at Bradford Bulls winning international caps for Great Britain and England.

For coach Mark Aston it shows the determination to compete in 2015 in what will be a tougher competition as the Eagles face several clubs with full-time squads.

“This is a big signing – we’ve got a player with massive experience who gives a 100% and is a leader every time he goes on the field” he said.

“It shows the club’s ambition to keep achieving. It’s going to be a different challenge next season. Jamie has been one of the outstanding players in the Super League and played for GV. He is still hungry to achieve.”

It’s the latest in an impressive list of forwards signed for next season with prop Steve Thorpe arriving from Australia and back rower John Davies from Batley.

Langley played more than 250 games for Bradford, representing GB once and England four times. He moved to Hull KR this season but a knee injury restricted him to 11 games.

At the Eagles Langley, 30, will have a dual role as player and asst coach taking over from Andrew Henderson who is moving to London Broncos and youth development officer Adam Hughes joining the RFL. “We have been looking to bring in experienced players and Jamie will add to a strong pack of forwards” said Aston.

“Jamie also wants to move into coaching and will be working with the junior and the first team.”

Eagles hope to have hooker James Davey, who missed the win at Doncaster, fit for the trip on Sunday (6.30pm).

The winner will face either Leigh Centurions or Dewsbury Rams in the final at Headingley Stadium on Sunday 5 October.

Reigning champions Eagles are chasing a fourth successive Grand Final appearance.
