Doncaster Dons got back to winning ways yesterday just days after boss Tony Miller announced he would step down at the end of the season.
Dons, who have lost their last two Championship matches, got off to the best start at the Keepmoat when a scramble in the corner saw Stewart Sanderson touch down and convert with seven minutes gone.
Moments later Matty Dawson flew down the wing to crash over as Sanderson added the extras for 12-0.
However, Hunslet reduced the deficit when Liam Hood skipped through in the 15th minute, capitalising on a lack of concentration from Doncaster. David March had the simplest of kicks for 12-6.
A Liam Welham off-load to Stuart Kain then saw the latter add four more for Hunslet and another effortless kick from March brought the scores level.
Bottom of the league Hunslet then went into the lead for the first time when Welham rose above Den Tuffour, plucked the ball from the air and sprinted over. Loose forward March had the last kick of the half for 18-12 Hunslet.
The Leeds club added to their score after the restart with a March penalty, however, that paved the way for man of the match Liam Kay to score a sublime solo try as he jinked past a number of challenges and raced over in the corner. Sanderson kicked over for 20-18.
Dons, who will be led by stand-off Paul Cooke next term as player/coach, went back in front as substitute Kyle Trout received a pass just before the line and forced his way over. Sanderson made it 24-20.
A forceful drive from hooker Mike Emmett then gave Hunslet an uphill challenge as he touched down between the posts and the flawless kicking of Sanderson continued.
The last action of the game saw Jimmy Keinhorst burst past the Dons defence as March converted his kick, however, the hosts held on for a 30-26 win in front of a crowd of 721.
