Sprotbrough start Championship campaign with big victory

Sprotbrough got their Championship season off to a winning start with a 101-run triumph at Oughtibridge in the Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League.

Gordon Thomson (45), Ash Ward (44), Matthew Webb (42) and Alex Rudkin (36) helped the Melton Road club amass 266 all out from their 50 overs.

Thomson (3-53) and Webb (3-43) then impressed with the ball as the hosts were dismissed for 165 in 43 overs.

Conisbrough suffered an agonising four-run defeat at Barnsley B.

Hassan Bin Shahab (4-32) and Jack Roberts (4-57) restricted the home side to 173-8.

James Doran struck 62 but Conisbrough’s last wicket fell with the score on 169.

Newly-promoted Warmsworth lost comprehensively at Whitley Parish Church, going down by 204 runs.

Lewis Brown claimed 6-64 but Andrew Tomlinson hit 119 to anchor the hosts’ imposing score of 281-9. Warmsworth could only muster 77 all out in response.
