ECB Yorkshire South Premier League champions Town had been scheduled to start the defence of their title at home to Elsecar this weekend but all cricket has been cancelled indefinitely as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

An official opening for the new nets also had to be cancelled.

Town’s director of cricket James Ward said: “The club has worked hard to secure funding from the Big Lottery Awards for All Fund, Co-Op Community Fund, South Yorkshire Community Foundation and the Doncaster Rotary Club, all of which has enabled the two-lane practice facility to be restored to its former glory for use of the coming years.

“Many boys, girls, men and women from our local community use this facility to play cricket and keep physically active, this renovation will allow them and future generations to continue to do so.

“We would like to thank all the organisations who made this renovation possible, without their support this simply wouldn’t have happened.”

Meanwhile, Ward has been interacting with junior members during the lockdown by sending them coaching videos.

“The activities and drills are designed to be carried out in the garden and there’s a challenge at the end of the video,” said Ward. “We’ve encouraged the juniors to send in videos. It’s all about staying safe and having some fun.”
