A BRILLIANT 112 run haul from stalwart Don Whitehurst helped Thurnscoe Institute seal their passage into the second tier with victory over Brodsworth Main.
But Thurnscoe were made to sweat by the Division Three whipping boys after Whitehurst failed to find much support.
Whitehurst’s haul proved vital in Thurnscoe’s 180 all out total, four wickets falling to David Merryweather for 30 runs.
The target looked to be in reach for Brodsworth but they fell seven runs short at 173 with Stephen Hall claiming 4-32 for Thurnscoe.
While the win was less than convincing, the ten point haul it brought proved enough for Thurnscoe to hold off the charge of Sykehouse and seal second place.
