The Olly Stevens-trained Lightning Thunder got the better of Justice Day and 2/1 favourite Expert in a thrilling finish to the Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Conditions Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the extraordinary run of form by Roger Varian-trained horses continued as Justineo took the Crown Hotel Scarbrough Stakes in the first day of the St Leger Festival.

The four-year-old was his Newmarket yard’s seventh winner from 10 runners this month; the other three finished second.
