Snooker: Doncaster clubs battle it out for cup semi-final berths

Hatfield Main, Barnby Dun, Trades Club, Bentley West End, Scawthorpe, Rostholme, White Hart and Hyde Park have all qualified for the Doncaster Veterans League KO Cup semi-finals, writes league secretary John Mitchell.


Hawthorn Social 1 Bentley West End 3

The opening frame did not go well for Eric Fairham when he lost out to Dave Holland who played well 21–62.

John Mitchell had an epic battle against John McWilliams coming back from 28 behind only to lose after a loose shot on brown which John punished me 42-62.

Rob Scott took an early lead but John Cunningham clawed his way back to requiring black for a re-spot Rob put the black away to win 52–38.

Dave Leach was up against Rob Savory who potted extremely well to win 21–71.

Barnby Dun 3 Intake Social 0

Pete Spencer took the opening frame against Ron Clarke with a good win 57–17.

Tommy Collins followed suit with his win over Russ Nice 54–24.

Baz Deakes secured the victory when he beat Alan Bacon 53–18.

Catholic Club 0 Hatfield Main 3

Bill Collinson had a good scrap but lost out to Brian Blaydon 32–55.

Charlie Morgan had a bad day and was well beaten by Stuart Elland 15–64.

Tony Hannah suffered the same feat as he lost to John Galbraith who put the visitor over the winning line 15–60.

John Parkinson lost to Tony Lanni 18–54 and Phil Mason also lost to Billy Whitehurst 32–64.

Trades Club 3 Bentley Top Club 0

Brian Hoole was not at his best and Jim Richardson wondered what he had done wrong then Brain potted a fortunate blue for the game 43-35.

Laurance Torn won a close encounter against Alf Hinsley 66-53.

Alan Dykes won his game with a bit more ease over Jack Richardson to win the match 57–14.


Rostholme Social 4 Askern Welfare 1

Roy Buxton got the home team off to a good start when he beat Derrick Honybone 54–21.

Richie Orton had an impressive win over Denis Clayton 73–33.

Ken Rutley secured the win when he beat Eric Law 57–21.

Dave North beat Dave McCloy 55–34 and Tony Arthur lost to Alan Watson 40–62.

Scawthorpe Social 3 Woodlands Snooker 2

The visitors were first out of the blocks when Dave Cooper lost to Dennis Brough 32–54.

Jim Seymour did not fare much better as he lost to Ernie Wood 28–42.

Les Seymour kept the home team in the match by beating Albert Bingham 55–29.

Pat McHale levelled the match with his win against 59–33.

The deciding frame was a cracker which Dave Cooper won against Derrick Betts 62–50.

White Hart Askern 3 Hyde Park Club 2

Maurice Ball took the opening frame against Roy Harthill 57–22.

Terry Green lost a close game against Rob Laver 36–56.

Stan Munday had a convincing victory over Cliff Cooke 71–28.

Percy Humble was well beaten as Jimmy Wynne levelled the match 8–51.

The deciding frame went to the wire but it was Sock Armstrong who potted the black to beat Roy Harthill 50–46.

HP Warriors 3 Woodland Rhinos 1

Tony Coy was not at his best as he lost to Wilf Coulter who played well 15–48.

Fran Crusack put the home team back into the tie by beating Bob Buxton 49–20.

Ian Samways and Paul Teague had a good match with both players potting cracking shots then missing the easier ones Paul missed the blue which cost him the frame 47–35.

Trevor Parker secured the match when he beat Alan Tasker 59–3.
