Owlerton legend Andre Compton insists he still has much more to offer Speedway - despite being told he will not be part of Sheffield’s plans in 2016.

The 38-year old is a firm favourite amongst the Tigers’ faithful having spent 12 seasons with the club and been at the forefront of some of their most memorable moments. Having returned to the shale after three years in retirement in 2013, he has been a key member of Sheffield’s revival under new management over the last two years.

However, he has been dealt a blow with the news he will not be included in their 2016 side, and admits he is bitterly disappointed.

Yet the enthusiastic veteran is out to prove Sheffield made the wrong decision by enjoying a season to remember elsewhere.

Compton said: “I felt like I’d done everything I could to deserve a place, but they’ve already made it clear I’m not in their plans for next year.

“I’m obviously disappointed, I don’t think I could have done much more than I did last season. “I’ve done 12 seasons with Sheffield now, and on my day there aren’t many quicker riders around Owlerton.

“I’ve been a consistent scorer away from home as well, and although I’ve had the odd bad meeting I’ve improved massively on what I did in 2014. I would have liked to be back at Sheffield but I still enjoy racing and I’ve found my passion for the sport again since coming back.

“I believe I’ve got a lot to offer, I think I’ve shown the last couple of years that I’m still moving forwards after coming out of retirement and feel I can continue that improvement elsewhere. Hopefully another club gives me a chance, and I’m not sure what the situation would be with me doubling up but I’d love to get another crack at the Elite League if possible.

“I’m not just looking for a Premier League place and nothing more – if the chance come up to ride in both leagues I’d take it with both hands.”
