Thomas Essomba’s camp believes their man can walk through Sheffield’s Waleed Din to become Commmonwealth flyweight championship.
The Sunderland-based Cameroonian takes on Din at a date to be finalised, although - but South Yorkshireman is scheduled to compete at the Magna Centre on September 5.
Essomba’s manager Phil Jeffries says: “Din is a talent but, to me, Thomas is the best out there at any of the flyweight divisions in the Commonwealth. I’m over the moon to have reached an agreement with Dennis Hobson. Dennis is a friend and someone I’ve worked with many times and now look forward to do so again here.”
Jeffries told the Sunderland Echo: “Dennis has been working with Spike TV so that could be a factor, but I’m just pleased this fight is happening.”
Whatever the date and wherever the location, this is a showdown between two of the most exciting talents in the lightest divisions.
Din, 22, from Sheffield, has won all seven of his pro bouts, five of the victories coming inside the distance.
Hobson believes he can be a world champion in the future.
