Seven wicket haul inspires derby triumph

GURMAN Randhawa took seven wickets as Rotherham Town claimed victory over rivals Doncaster Town.

The 19-year-old from Huddersfield took 7-45 to help skittle Doncaster for just 156 and secure Rotherham’s first league win of the season.

Rotherham reached 184-9 in their 55 overs with skipper James Moorehouse top scoring with 62 before falling to top Doncaster bowler Jonathan Redfern who finished with 5-43.

Only four Doncaster batsmen reached double figures but Gareth Cox led the way with 40.

Doncaster secured their first point of the season two days earlier in defeat to Scarborough. Joe Padmore hit an unbeaten ton as Scarborough posted 261-4 and Doncaster were in similarly big–hitting form but closed short on 225-8.

Alex Gosney hit 72 in the pick of the Doncaster scores.

Barnsley also suffered two defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend, losing out to reigning champions York and Sheffield Collegiate.

York posted a good total of 280-6 in Saturday’s match, a target way beyond Barnsley who fell all out for 164 despite 48 from Steven Nuttall and Simon Widdup’s 46.

Barnsley looked good for victory against Collegiate but a flurry of late wickets saw their batting attack collapse.

Collegiate had posted 211-9 with the pick of the Barnsley bowlers Richard Wilkinson claiming 5-60.

Wilkinson also did well with the bat, scoring 49 before being run out, and Simon Widdup added 81.

But their run rate dried up dramatically with the last five batsmen only scoring single figures and the innings ended at 186 all out.
