Racing: Thursday preview

Bow And Arrow made quite a splash when winning at Beverley last week and it seems a good bit of business on Charlie Appleby’s behalf to turn him out again quickly at Redcar.

Winner of one of his two maiden starts as a juvenile, Bow And Arrow suffered a shock defeat on his handicap bow at Chelmsford back in February but given a bit of a break, he righted the record when winning at Lingfield at the start of April.

Switching to turf on the Westwood, Bow And Arrow was shouldering an extra 3lb and given the narrow margin of his Lingfield victory, that looked a reasonable rise.

However, he shrugged off any concerns with a thoroughly stylish 13-length win at Beverley, leading virtually from pillar to post to win with the very minimum of fuss.

Clearly the handicapper will take a dim view of that effort but he has not had his say yet and a 6lb penalty for his win should not be enough to stop Bow And Arrow in the Redcar Racecourse Conference & Wedding Venue Handicap.

Loom Of Life can reverse recent form with Sir Lancelott in the Handicap.

Unplaced in three juvenile outings last term, Richard Fahey’s charge was gelded over the winter and showed more than a glimpse of promise upon his return to the track earlier this month.

Shouldering joint-top weight on his handicap bow, Loom Of Life still looked as though he had plenty to learn as he floundered around a couple of furlongs from home before keeping on for third.

He was giving Sir Lancelott 5lb that day when beaten three and three-quarter lengths and he is receipt of 3lb here, all of which adds up to a very healthy advantage.

The Dapper Tapper can bring up a hat-trick in the Handicap at Lingfield.
