OLYMPICS: Doncaster’s Sarah Stevenson goes for seventh heaven

THERE’S chance for even more Yorkshire gold today with Doncaster’s Sarah Stevenson beginning her taekwondo campaign this morning at ExCel.

Stevenson, from Doncaster, is in action at 10.30am against American Paige McPherson.

Seeded fourth in the draw the 29-year-old will have to win four times to make the top step of the podium.

Boxer Nicola Adams, who is from Leeds, was Yorkshire’s sixth gold medallist yesterday.

The others are Sheffield athlete Jessica Ennis, Middlesbrough rower Kat Copeland, Leeds triathlete Alistair Brownlee, Barnsley cyclist Ed Clancy, and Yorkshire Dales rower Andy Triggs-Hodge.
