Swinton judo player Patrick License continued his rise to stardom after winning the British Under-13s judo championship in Kidderminster.

Having won all the major events this year, Paddy was clear favourite - and didn’t disappoint, sweeping through the field in double quick time to secure the under 60kg title.

Paddy, who began his judo at Rotherham Tigers Judo Club under legend Keith Tiger Brown, was joined in the final by Dan Jefferies of Rotherham Miramar Judo Club, with Dan taking a well earned silver medal.

Dan’s father Chris Jefferies, one of the coaches at Miramar, said “It’s his first event at this level and, by making the final, he proved he belongs in this company.

“Facing Paddy in the final was always a big ask but he didn’t disgrace himself. The two lads have proved that Rotherham can produce top level judo players”.

Winning the title, however, proved much easier than bringing home the medal. A medal shortage saw Paddy and Dan draw the short straw, and they were presented with temporary medals until the real ones arrive.

Paddy’s dad Neil said: “We’ll arrange a local presentation to ensure the lads can properly celebrate.”
