THE Doncaster boxing ‘outcast’ says that he is coming back to the town to win in style.

Unbeaten flyweight Jason Cunningham, aged 23, will contest the British Masters title on the Keepmoat Stadium bill on May 11 against Ingle-trained Uzzy Ahmed.

From Woodlands, Cunningham trains alongside Olympic gold medallist and fellow southpaw Luke Campbell in Hull. Cunningham won the ABA title with the St Paul’s club and wanted to turn professional with them.

Thus far Cunningham has only boxed once in his hometown and admits that he is not as well known as he ought to be.

He reckons a win over Derby’s Ahmed will make more people take notice.

“The fight was supposed to be for the English title which has a bit more prestige but they wouldn’t sanction Uzzy for it which I’m a bit gutted about,” said Cunningham.

“It’s vacant anyway so that’s something I can move onto next before hopefully the British and Commonwealth.

“I’m the next British champion from Doncaster and I’ve no doubts about saying that,” he added.
