Houghton’s surprise fall

Houghton Main 2nd XI 175 Rotherham Town 3rd XI 197-7

HOUGHTON Main Seconds suffered a shock defeat to Rotherham Town Thirds who picked up their first win of the season.

A brilliant century from Amol Vehere, supported with 40 from Timothy Staveley, helped Town post 197-7 with Andrew Higginbottom 3-42.

Houghton made a good attempt at the chase with Higginbottom continuing his fine performance with 76 and Tan Pirabakaran scoring 31.

But they fell at 175 with Luke Thornton claiming 4-29 and Colin Smith 3-32.

Dearne 2nd XI 87

Conisbrough 2nd XI 125

CONISBROUGH Seconds maintained their promotion push with a lacklustre win over Dearne.

After openers Michael and Craig Jackson had posted 18 and 36 respectively no other Conisbrough batsman reached double figures.

But 31 extras helped boost the Conisbrough total to 125, half of the wickets falling to Luke Stead in an analysis of 5-28.

Only two Dearne batsmen managed to reach double figures while Conisbrough were far less generous in slack extras.

Skipper Robert Hart hit 29 and Stead did not blot his copy book, staying in with 24no at the close, as Dearne were skittled for just 87.

Stead’s shout for man of the match was edged out by Jackson who claimed 6-38 in his analysis while Mark Neale took 4-31.
