Fletcher catches out leaders with all-round show

LONG-time leaders Rossington Main suffered a surprise defeat against newcomers Maltby MW in the All Saints Indoor League.

Rossington made a below-par 57-6 after which fell away following a steady start from Scott Wood (19) and Stewart Groves (13).

Three exceptional catches by Maltby’s Phil Fletcher, whose three exceptional catches were the highlight of the match. Matty Richardson (2- 6) and John Pinkos (2-13) were Maltby’s main destroyers.

A good partnership from Paul Pendle (15) and Liam Woodward (16) steadied the Maltby reply as Fletcher capped a fine personal performance with 16 not out.

Rossington’s closest rivals Doncaster Town narrowed the gap by beating spirited Parklands.

Reliable openers Ryan Capstick (27) and James Dobson (23) had good support from Scott Exeley (14) and Mindy Kundra (12 not out) as they hit 90-3.

Scott Hibbert (17) was the only Parklands batsman to reach double figures as they closed on 55-5.

Fellow challengers, Hatfield Town pulled off a comfortably win over Warmsworth. Paul Davies (33) got his side off to a flying start with good support from Andrew Cutts (19) and Richard Platt (16 not out) in their 96-5.

Warmsworth’s Mark Shanks (24) and Conner Doherty (12) put some pressure on their opponents but once they eparted the innings fell away and they closed on 70-3.

The fourth possible title contenders, Barnby Dun, amassed the highest total of the season - 145-2 (Stewart McPhee 40no, Phil Decent 37, Scot Rich 27 ret no) before Askern’s innings closed on 68-2 (Josh Gillies 28, Gavin Williams 23.
