Elsecar move into contention while Wath still wallow

ELSECAR Seconds slipped into the promotion place with a comfortable triumph which increased the woes of their struggling Wath counterparts.

Adrian Meadows smashed 13 fours in his total of 94 while Joe Fletcher added 33.

A quickfire unbeaten 33 in 17 balls from Steve Taylor boosted Elsecar’s final total to 252-8, with half the wickets falling to Joe Thompson at the expense of 62 runs.

Wath struggled from the outset and stood at 30-2 before Joe Thompson and Steve Reynolds added 56 for the third wicket on their way to hauls of 31 and 47 respectively.

Shaun Hopkins kept things going with useful 34 but Wath closed well short on 192-7. Youngster Fletcher claimed 4-42 for Elsecar.

Darfield 277-7 Treeton 2nd XI 142

AN ALL round team effort helped Darfield to a comfortable win over Treeton Seconds which maintained their lead at the top of the table.

Opening pair Liam Marshall and Peter Hadfield got Darfield moving in fine style with 44 and 60 respectively. Simon Potter added 45 while Ashley Ward’s unbeaten 51 off 33 balls helped Darfield close on 277-7.

Thomas Starkes claimed 3-37 for Treeton who never looked like reaching the target set for them.

Scott Ellis scored 38 and Matthew Haddock 25 but these were the best of the bunch as Treeton were skittled for 142.

Irfan Mirza claimed 3-23 and James Ward 4-37 to cap a good day for Darfield.
