DONCASTER Athletic Club’s Simon Wright helped England strike gold in the British and Irish Masters Cross Country at Belfast’s Queens University Sports Centre at the weekend.

Wright won an individual bronze medal in the 8k vet-45 race in a time of 28 minutes 05 seconds and formed part of the England team which struck gold in the same age-group category.

Wright made his international debut in the same event last year.

Team-mate Kev Newman, who has enjoyed a good year on the road in 2012, showed his rivals a clean pair of heels when winning the vet-55 section, and finishing seventh overall, in the Open Race 8k race in a time of 29 minutes 49 seconds.
