DONCASTER RACECOURSE: The Leger build-up begins

WHAT a great end to August’s racing…

Last Saturday brought to an end a fantastic month of racing – as we finished the evening on a high with a stunning performance from U2 tribute act, U2-2. The band, recognised as the definitive U2 tribute act by the Irish rockers themselves, put on a great show to complete the final day of racing at Town Moor ahead of our pinnacle meeting, the St Leger festival.

The on-the-track action was equally entertaining.

In the first race 5/1 First Class put in a performance to match its name. In the 2:05pm 6/1 Lizzie Tudor raced ahead of hotly tipped Ghanaian at 3/1 to claim victory, while the third race saw Signor Sassy beat Stir Trader at 11/4 and favourite Enrol to win.

Chookie Royale at 7/1, Steel Stockholder (14/1) and Dubai Celebration at odds of 6/1 saw off favourite Ted’s Brother to claim first, second and third respectively. And in the big race Go Dutch at 9/2 passed the post in first place, beating Lutine Bell, favourite Mont Ras and Corporal Maddox.

The class three racewent to Face the Problem at 12/1 Our 5pm was clinched by Maastricht at 7/2 and Standpoint at 8/1 won the 5:35pm.

We are now looking ahead to the biggest meeting in our calendar – the St Leger festival. Getting underway on Wednesday, September 12, the Leger meeting will attract more than 60,000 fans to Town Moor, over four fantastic days.

on Wednesday, September 12 we host the Welcome to Yorkshire raceday, featuring our Leger Legends race, in which stars of years gone by, including Richard Hills and Mick Kinane, will come temporarily out of retirement to battle it out in a charity fundraiser. Julie Krone is making the journey to Doncaster from the USA to attempt to once again beat off the competition and win the race, something she achieved last year.

Thursday is set to be a more glamorous affair, as Ladies Day gets underway at Doncaster Racecourse. And the festival culminates in the Doncaster Cup Day on Friday, September 14 and Ladbrokes St Leger Day on Saturday, two fantastic days of racing.
