Elsecar B’s hopes of promotion to Division One of the South Yorkshire League were dashed, despite them beating Oughtibridge by 22 runs.

To stand any hopes of promotion, Elsecar had to win their game and hope others above them failed to do so.

In the end, the top three sides all won, leaving Elsecar fourth - just four points behind third-placed Hallam B.

Adrian Meadows and James Swallow both hit half-centuries as Elsecar posted 204, and Oughtibridge were restricted to 182-8.

Sheffield United B enhanced their chances of winning the Division 2 championship with a good win over Conisbrough B at St Peters Drive.

United skipper James Smith hit an excellent 107 not out, as his side posted 237-4.

Conisbrough never looked like challenging that total, and were all out for 177 with Stephen Hughes’ 56 the highlight. Tom Bolland took five for 49 for United, who finished joint top alongside Warmsworth.

Intriguingly, the two sides are also level on number of wins, number of bonus points and points against each other. The league must now work out who are champions by net run rate, which is calculated by dividing runs per wicket for, by runs per wicket against.
