Boxing: Jason the latest to join ‘left hand gang’

Doncaster boxing promoter Stefy Bull has snapped up prospect Jason Cunningham.

The Woodlands southpaw, age 24, has joined Bull’s stable in Mexborough after being released by manager John Ingle. Cunningham, a former ABA champion, will also train at the Empress Ballrooms and has left his long association with the St Paul’s club in Hull that also produced Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell.

Cunningham’s stock will rise further if he passes his first test against Halifax’s Scott Gladwin for the English bantamweight title in March at the Doncaster Dome. The belt was once in the hands of Jamie McDonnell, who won it at the same venue in 2007 against Wayne Bloy before his meteoric rise to world honours.

Bull trains all the southpaws at his gym and Cunningham joins Darfield’s Robbie Barrett and Connor Nixon from Hatfield as another of Bull’s left hand gang.
