Five Dearne athletes will be gearing up for this week’s English Schools Athletics Championships - and there’s high hopes of a medal haul.

The 2014 championships will see scores of young, talented athletes compete at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium tomorrow and Saturday.

And the Dearne have five of the South Yorkshire’s 35-strong contigent set to battle it out for top honours.

Adam Hague will be representing the Senior Boys Pole Vault category with Josh Lindley-Harris taking on the Junior section.

Matthew Miller will be competing in the Inter Boys Long jump, Roman Rocha-Lawrence (pictured) will be hoping for glory in the Senior Boys 100m and talented Keelan Wilson will take on the Junior Boys 800m.

There is expected to be a strong chance of medals, particularly with Dearne ALC duo Hague and Lindley-Harris who are ranked second and first nationally in their respective age groups.

Both are coached by Trevor Fox who also mentors Great Britain pole vaulter Luke Cutts, of Thurnscoe.

And Wilson, a member of Rotherham Harriers who is coached by Nicola Myers, is also tipped for success because the talented youngster currently tops the national 800m rankings for his age group.
