Mexborough Athletic, playing the third of five successive home fixtures in Sheffield & Hallam County League Division Two, slipped to a 4-1 loss against Anston.
Captain Natasha Carlton scored for Mexborough, her header at a corner sandwiched between Anston’s two first half goals from Dawn Cripps and Kirsty Smith.
Cripps completed her hat trick by the hour mark and Anston could have had further goals before Mexborough went close a few times, but the damage had already been done.
Mexborough host Sheffield Wednesday Development this Sunday, the visitors currently second, level on points with Sheffield Rangers.
Dearne & District remained anchored at the foot of North East League Southern Division, last Sunday’s 5-0 home defeat to then second bottom Malet Lambert making it seven games without a point so far.
The division has been reduced in numbers to just ten teams (from 12), so depending on divisional/league movements next summer Dearne might not suffer relegation, even if, as seems very likely, they finish in bottom spot.
However, it might be more prudent to drop back down to County League and enjoy a more prosperous season at a lower level than endure a struggle at their current level.
