We must bounce back from shambles at the seaside

What a shambles.

No wonder Paul Dickov came out and apologised to the 400 or so Rovers fans who made the trip down to Bournemouth. It was a pitiful performance.

The Rovers fans enjoyed reminding the Cherries how we won the Championship last season but the tables were turned on Saturday.

The only ones crying this time were the fans who spent their hard-earned money to watch such a poor effort.

Bournemouth burst out of the blocks and their wingers terrified our defence. Our back four have looked quite solid recently but we could not cut out crosses and Yann Kermorgant helped himself to three unchallenged headers.

The fact that Sam Johnstone in goal got man of the match for Rovers, despite the 5-0 scoreline, tells you everything.

Bournemouth has not been a happy hunting ground for me. I remember driving there when I was in the Navy and we won 2-0 with Ian Nimmo and Carl Swann scoring, then after the game my car got attacked and badly damaged.

I’ve seen us lose 7-1 there, ex-Rovers Supporters’ Club chairman Chaz Walker suffered a heart attack after an FA Cup tie there, and then came the 5-0 defeat with a certain Sean O’Driscoll in charge of the Cherries.

We must not dwell on things though, and it’s important we bounce back against Huddersfield this weekend, the Terriers buoyed by their 5-0 victory over Barnsley.

We will have to shuffle the pack after Bongani Khumalo suffered a bad injury while playing for South Africa against Brazil, but at least we have got Billy Sharp returning after suspension.

We have done well against the better sides this season but we need to start stringing some results together. With only 13 games left, time and games are running out.

There should be another good crowd at the game this weekend, with Town bringing over 3000.

With another home game against Watford following on Tuesday night, it’s now more than ever we as supporters really need to get behind the team. Enjoy the game and let’s cheer the team onto victory.
