VIDEO: Sheffield United’s Jose Baxter reveals his FA Cup dream

Jose Baxter has launched a scathing attack on the FA Cup’s detractors after declaring he is determined to win the competition before he retires, writes James Shield.

The Sheffield United centre-forward revealed his ambition as last season’s semi-finalists prepare for today’s first round tie against League One rivals Crewe Alexandra.

Baxter, who became the first United player to score at the new Wembley Stadium during April’s titanic tussle with Hull City, told The Star: “I think this is a great tournament. A great English tournament and I can’t understand why people get blasé about it.

“Ask any player who has been lucky enough to win it and I’m sure they’ll tell you it’s right up there with anything else they’ve done.

“It’s a cup I like and it’s I cup I definitely want to win.”

United beat Aston Villa, Fulham and Nottingham Forest en route to their meeting with Steve Bruce’s side and Baxter, previously of Everton and Oldham Athletic, added: “Nothing, as we showed last time, is beyond the realms of possibility. We’ve shown that we are a force to be reckoned with and that we can live with the big boys.

“I know we are away from home here but I don’t think anyone would enjoy coming to Bramall Lane.

“I’m a Liverpool fan and was at the 2006 final against West Ham. When someone like Steven Gerrard puts the type of shift in he did that day, well, it just shows you what the FA Cup should mean.”
