VIDEO: Jones fury at Rovers performance in derby defeat

Rob Jones refused to be drawn on his chances of claiming the manager’s job on a permanent basis after Rovers’ defeat to Sheffield United.

Rovers’ interim boss was furious with the manner of his side’s performance in the 3-1 defeat at Bramall Lane and kept his players locked in the dressing room for more than 45 minutes after the final whistle.

When asked if some of his disappointment was due to the defeat potentially damaging his claim to become permanent boss, Jones said: “It’s not about me.

“It’s about Doncaster Rovers Football Club and moving the club forward.

“It’s not about Rob Jones. I’ve said this all along.

“I’m in a very privileged position. I accept that.

“The players know it’s about them and what they do on a Saturday afternoon.

“Saturday wasn’t enough.”

Jones refused to divulge what he said to his players during his dressing room inquest but said he has demanded a response during Tuesday night’s home clash with Swindon Town.

He said: “We had some words in there, and I now look for a reaction.

“We’ve discussed it in the dressing room what I’m not pleased about, what I’m really unhappy about, how we’re going to put it right and move it forward.

“But there were lots of things I wasn’t happy about today.I will demand a response on Tuesday night.”

According to a national newspaper report, Jones will face competition from former Notts County boss Shaun Derry for the Rovers managerial role.

The Daily Mail has suggested the 37-year-old – who has been out of work since leaving Meadow Lane last season – is a leading contender for the position.

The period for applications for the role closed on Friday with the Rovers hierarchy planning to conduct interviews over the next fortnight.

Rovers could be without Curtis Main for Tuesday night’s game after the striker missed the trip to Bramall Lane with a hamstring strain.
