Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has set his sights on bringing five players to the New York Stadium ahead of the new League One season.
The Millers manager also confirmed that Ashley Grimes, recently released from Rochdale, was one name on his ‘wanted’ list, as he aims to assemble a squad that will “grace” the third tier of English football.
Evans spent his weekend on the road, watching Play-Off games, before jetting to Scotland to check on one potential target.
“We have got a clear idea of the type of player we want to bring in, and the players themselves,” Evans said.
“But, as ever, it all comes down to cost.
“We have agreed terms with a right back so far, and we would like to strengthen our forward line - although we have been saying that for some time now.”
Striker Grimes, who scored 11 times in 41 games for Rochdale in League Two last term, was one of eight players told they have no future at Spotland by former Barnsley boss Keith Hill.
Grimes undoubtedly caught the eye of Evans back in January, when he scored Rochdale’s opener against the Millers at Spotland. The Millers eventually won 2-1.
“I’ve got a lot of time for him (Grimes) as a player,” Evans added.
“He is decent, but we will have to wait and see where that takes us.
“We are going to have to work diligently through all areas of our team, to make sure we have the real balance and the real flair to go out there and grace League One.”
The Millers will be guaranteed at least one full house at the New York Stadium next season, after Sheffield United’s failure to achieve promotion through the League One Play-Offs.
Rotherham will begin their League One campaign earlier than usual, on Saturday August 3.
The fixture list will be released on Wednesday 19th June 2013 at 9.00am.
