THE Steelmen moved within two points of top spot after comfortably. seeing off Long Eaton United at Green Lane.

Goals from Ashley Worsfold, Chris Wood and Keir Hannity handed Parkgate the win.

Hannity almost opened the scoring after 50 seconds but his header flashed over the bar and this proved to be the best chance of the opening 20 minutes.

But the Steelmen took the lead on 24 minutes when debutant Lee Stratford sent a fine ball over the United defence and Worsfold vollied home at the front post.

Worsfold had a glorious chance to double the lead when he chased down a backpass and drilled towards a crowded goal only for a defender on the line to clear.

United enjoyed their own spell of pressure late in the half with Michael Martin and Elliott King going close before the break.

Parkgate resumed control in the second half and Worsfold saw another effort cleared off the line after again refusing to give up the chase.

But Wood did increase the lead on 65 minutes when he latched onto a rebounded effort after Hannity drilled a Nathan Forbes-Swindells cross on goal.

Hannity should have opened his account on 75 minutes when he picked up a spilled ball only to fire straight at the keeper from six yards out.

He atoned for the miss seven minutes from time however when the dangerous Worsfold squared to Hannity and he rounded the keeper to slot home.

Parkgate looked on course for a clean sheet but with 15 seconds remaining Michael Armstrong latched onto a loose ball and fired home from seven yards.

The Steelmen are away at rock bottom Pickering Town on Saturday.
