Sheffield United: Turkish giants set to visit Bramall Lane

Fenerbahçe SK will face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane later this month, the two clubs have confirmed.

The fixture against the reigning Super Lig champions marks the high-point of the League One club’s pre-season schedule.

Both teams have agreed to donate a significant portion of the gate receipts to the Turkish Mining Disaster Fund.

United director and Fenerbahce supporter Selahattin Baki, who has been instrumental in arranging the match which takes place on Thursday 31 July.

He said: “This is going to be an epic friendly. Two great clubs with long, storied traditions and hugely passionate fans coming together to show solidarity with families whose loved ones lost their lives in last May’s mine tragedy in Soma, Turkey.

“Sheffield United, as the team of working people, Sheffield, as the city of working people, can relate to the tragedy in Soma, I can’t be more grateful for the support.”

Fenerbahce’s squad list includes Diego, Raul Meireles, Bruno Alves and Dirk Kuyt together with experienced Turkey internationals such as Volkan Demirel and Gökhan Gönül.

Tickets prices for the match will be confirmed in due course.

United, meanwhile, will visit York City on Saturday 2nd August.
