Sheffield United have signed Michael Higdon from NEC Nijmegen, the League One club has announced.

Higdon, aged 30, arrives for an undisclosed sum after scoring 14 goals in the Netherlands last season.

A former PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year, the centre-forward has previously represented Falkirk, St Mirren and Motherwell. He started his career with Crewe Alexandra before moving to Scotland in 2007.

United, who return to competitive action when Bristol City visit Bramall Lane on Saturday, have awarded Higdon a two year contract with an option for a third.
