Rovers League: Askern Miners close gap on leaders Rossington Main

Askern Miners moved to within a point of Doncaster Rovers Saturday League Premier Division leaders Rossington Main Reserves following a 6-2 win over struggling Bawtry Town.

Chris Hancock (2), Michael Attard (2), Danny Jones and Elliot Mountfield were on target for Askern, while Cal Reed and Joe Pinkney replied for Bawtry.

Askern have played two games fewer than Rossington who suffered only their third defeat in 16 games as they went down 4-1 at Armthorpe Welfare Development.

Rory Millar, Harrison Mercer, Connor Clayton and Harry Brown earned Armthorpe the points with Jason Kearsley grabbing Rossington’s consolation.

Dearne & District moved into third spot with a 4-1 home win over Epworth Town Colts Blues.

Nick Guest bagged a hat trick for Dearne and Keelan Wilson was also on target, while Chris Knight replied for the Blues.

Bessacarr Development won 3-0 at bottom side ISG Doncaster courtesy of goals from Adam Sarr (2) and Ronin Harrington, while Josh Gelder fired GCT Doncaster B to a 3-0 win over Yorkshire Main with a hat trick.

Maltby Juniors are closing in on promotion from Division One after a 3-0 victory at fourth-placed Askern Miners Development – an 18th win from 18 games – with goals from Joe McGuiness (2) and Devon Stead.

St Josephs Worksop continued their promotion push with a 4-0 win at Doncaster Town thanks to goals from Max Sykes (2), Taylor Thackery and Luke Morris.

St Josephs, who currently lie fifth in the table, are 14 points behind second-placed AFC Bentley Development but have eight games in hand.

Bentley will not give up that second promotion spot easily and they beat Epworth Town Colts Development 4-0 with Danny Halliday, Zach Waller, Josh Roberts and Jack Pearson on target.

Tickhill Juniors triumphed 5-3 over GCT Doncaster A with strikes from Harvey Walker (2), Liam Cross, Dom Hunston and Ally Churchill, while Matthew Bradley (2) and Lewis Jackson replied for GCT.

Goals from Sam Sykes and Ieuan Clement helped South Park Rangers to a 2-0 home success over Adwick Park Foresters, while Doncaster Eagles were 2-1 winners over Armthorpe Rovers.

On Monday Armthorpe Rovers suffered a 5-0 home defeat at the hands of Sprotbrough Country Club, South Park Rangers drew 1-1 with Askern Miners Development and Tickhill Juniors won 4-1 against AFC Doncaster Town.
