A chat with former Rotherham United loan star Tom Lawrence convinced new signing Jack Barmby that AESSEAL New York Stadium was the place for him.

Barmby, the son of former England international Nick, has joined the Millers on a month-long deal and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Brentford.

The 20-year-old, who can play in midfield or up front, said: “I spoke to Tom on the phone on Wednesday. He said ‘you’ll love it, they’re a good bunch of lads’.

“I’m looking foward to getting into it.”

Like Lawrence, whose successful loan spell ended last month, Barmby is a Leicester City player.

He came through the ranks at Manchester United and scored five goals in 12 starts during a loan stint at Hartlepool last season.

“I found out about the (Rotherham) interest a couple of days ago,” he said. “I was delighted with it. I jumped at the chance.

“Hopefully I can provide goals and assists. Obviously I just want to try to help the team out.

“I can play in varied positions. I’m more of a forward-thinking player.

“The Championship will be something different. It will be a chance to test myself out.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge, and hopefully we can do well.”

Barmby has yet to play for Leicester’s first team.
