Rotherham United’s players are desperate for the Championship action to begin, full-back Joe Skarz has revealed.
“There are a host of big-name teams and we can’t wait to pit our wits against them,” said Skarz, one of the heroes of the League One Play-off Final win at Wembley in May.
“We know the league is very tough but the signings the Gaffer’s made have kind of lifted the lads who were here previously.
“They know what it’s all about. They have generally all played in the Championship quite a number of times so it’s been good to see what they say about the league and see how they train and prepare. But obviously all the lads who were here last year deserve to be where they are now.
“Training’s been really good, really tough, and we’ve had a lot of games. The players have had a lot of minutes and now we’re ready to go.
Manager Steve Evans has brought in 12 players over the summer and the action gets under way tomorrow against Derby County at the iPro Stadium.
Skarz added: “Last season showed the type of characters we have at this club, how far we were willing to go for each other, and hopefully it’s the same this season.”
