Rotherham United legend Adam Le Fondre has heaped praise on his former club - but admits he’d still love to score against them tomorrow.

Hitman Le Fondre - known to all Millers fans as ‘Alfie’ - is likely to be in the Cardiff City side for the Championship home clash with his former side tomorrow.

And the striker who scored 54 goals in just 90 league starts for the Millers between 2009 and 2011 said: ““Rotherham are a brilliant club and I can’t thank them enough for the way they helped me progress my career.

“A lot of their players have changed and it’s not really a chance to get one over my old mates, but it is a former club and I would love to score.

“I scored a lot of goals for Rotherham and my only regret from that time if that I couldn’t help them earn promotion.

“It’s great to see that they have had two really successful seasons under Steve Evans, their manager and have been promoted twice. Their chairman has been fantastic. He had so much drive to help Rotherham get into the Championship.”

Meanwhile, Bluebirds boss Russell Slade has revealed the pain he felt in May when he was Leyton Orient manager at losing the League One Play-off Final to Rotherham in a penalty shoot-out.

“It hurt,” he admitted. “It was a major blow. The play-off system can be so cruel.

“Now, though, I am happy to be Cardiff manager. This is a wonderful opportunity for me, There is a lot of work ahead but I am ready for that and will enjoy that.”

He said of the Millers: “Steve Evans has made four loan signings recently and they are working hard to maintain Championship status. They will be relentless in what they do, play ugly if it’s needed and dig out points this season.”

Centre-half Bruno Manga and wide midfielder Anthony Pilkington miss out for eighth-placed Cardiff today through injury. The Millers are in 21st spot.
