Boss Steve Evans blasted the referee who gave a penalty against Rotherham United - and then claimed the official would probably be rewarded with a promotion.

Evans was fuming when Dean Whitestone awarded QPR a late spot-kick on Saturday, just after the Millers had fought back from 3-0 down to 3-2.

“We don’t get those penalties. We never have those penalties,” he said.

“That’s the referee who didn’t give us a stonewall penalty at Birmingham last season.

“But he’ll get praised. He’ll get a full-time contract next year, he’ll get put in the Premier League and they’ll save he’s a clever little chappie, won’t they?

“Well done. Have a good night.”

Whitestone, of Northamptonshire, decided Lee Frecklington was guilty of bringing down Sebastian Polter, although little contact appeared to be made.

The Millers midfielder protested his innocence, but Charlie Austin stepped up to seal a 4-2 win for Rangers.

Evans repeated his claim of last season that officials within the Football League don’t like Rotherham being in the Championship.

“They don’t want us around,” he said. “Didn’t want us last year. Don’t want us this year.

“QPR will have a lot easier games than they’ve had today. We’ve outplayed them for large parts, but the scoreline doesn’t reflect it.”
