Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has challenged one of his new signings to show the attitutude to match his talent.

Winger Febian Brandy has joined the Millers after being released by South Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, and the Millers boss is delighted to land a player he says could light up the Championship.

“Who was the most talented player at Bramall Lane last season? Febian Brandy,” Evans said.

“He has the ability to be a top, top Championship player if he applies himself in the way we want him to.

Brandy was loaned out to former club Walsall last season after being sent off twice early in his Blades career.

“We’ve given a chance to one or two who have something to prove and he’sone of them,” Evans added.

“It’s not their ability to perform in the Championship which is in question. They are Championship players. Now they have to show a Championship attitude.”

“Febian now has the opportunity to show his worth. If he doesn’t, he won’t be part of Steve Evans’ squad for very long.

“Nigel Clough (Sheffield United boss) will have had his reasons for letting him go, but I was amazed when he became available.”

Meanwhile, Millers centre-half Guy Branston has retired, aged 35, after a career which included 19 clubs.
