Rotherham United lacked for nothing in effort but were beaten by Championship leaders AFC Bournemouth.
The Millers suffered a cruel blow two minutes into time added on at the end of the first half as Tommy Elphick headed home with the help of a post after a free-kick was harshly awarded against midfielder Richie Smallwood.
Callum Wilson made it 2-0 after 62 minutes. poking the ball home when it luckily fell to him after a prolonged goalmouth scramble.
It summed up the Millers’ day. The Cherries were slick, fast and purposeful but also got all the breaks.
With five players making home debuts, Rotherham never stopped battling.
They came on strong towards the end, with Smallwood., Adam Hammill and Paul Green all having efforts in a two-minute spell between the 82nd and 83rd minute.
But defeat made it eight matches since Steve Evans’ men last won at New York Stadium.
