You live and die by your results.
Unfortunately for Paul Dickov, the board had to act under pressure from fan unrest.
The recent results - the Port Vale and Gillingham games - were the final straw, although I thought they may have given him a few more games.
Some fans are still bitter about the way we got relegated from the Championship, having only needed one more point from those last seven games.
Paul was to be judged on having a pre-season without any outside interference, able to get his own players in, but we have had another bad crop of injuries and not had the rub of the green from officials.
The football has not been easy on the eye recently, and unfortunately the league table does not lie.
Paul is probably the nicest manager off the field we have had for years, and I wish him all the best for the future.
I would like to see Glynn Snodin given the chance, he’s been successful as a number two and he’s got the club at heart.
He’s been successful with Huddersfield, Leeds, Preston and Northern Ireland. It could be time for him to step up to the mark, with possibly Neil Redfearn to assist.
Brian McDermott would be a good call too.
