Paul Dickov wants Doncaster Rovers to send a message out to their League One rivals over the coming week.

Dickov has urged his side to make a statement - and shake-off their inconsistent tag - over the next three games, starting at Fleetwood Town tomorrow.

Rovers make their first ever visit to Fleetwood on the back of successive wins against Scunthorpe and Burton Albion.

“I’ve got to be careful what I say [on the issue of consistency] because there’s a couple of times already this season that we’ve thought that we’ve got there, and it’s come back to haunt us,” said Dickov.

“We’ve spoken a lot about the games we’ve got coming up - with Fleetwood away and then Leyton Orient and MK Dons at home we’ve got three really tough games in the space of a week.

“If we can come through them with the same sort of result and performance like we got against Chesterfield here, we’ll be well on our way.

“What that’ll do is send a message out to other teams.

“At the moment we’re a bit of an up and down team. As an opposing team you’re thinking ‘they’ve won a couple of games, they’re ready to slack again’.

“We’ve got to make sure that doesn’t happen.”

Rovers can record three straight wins for the first time this season if they win at Fleetwood.

“Confidence is high but that’s when you’ve got to be on your guard,” warned Dickov.

“Sometimes we are at our worst when we’ve been at our best.

“We’ve got to make sure we don’t get carried away because it’s going to be a tough game for us on Saturday. We need to do what we did in the Burton and Scunthorpe games and that’s, first and foremost, work hard and be very hard to beat, dig in and play our football after that.”

Curtis Main resumed full training yesterday and is likely to be in contention for a place on the bench tomorrow. Dean Furman will join up with his teammates today after returning from international duty with South Africa.

Young defender Ben Askins is out for three months after damaging ankle ligaments in training.
