Manchester United young gun Ben Pearson is looking to make a lasting impression at Oakwell.
The highly-rated midfielder celebrated his 19th birthday last week - and he’s determined to kick on now having been given the chance to get some games under his belt at League One level.
“All young players just need a chance to show what they’ve got,” said Pearson, one of three new signings at Oakwell on Thursday.
“You never know, this could the stepping stone for my future. Hopefully it will be good for my game and I’ll do well.
“It’s been a bit stop-start at Manchester United because we’ve not had many Under-21 games, so I wanted to get our and experience some men’s football. It’s a good move for me coming here. I want to experience a more physical side of the game.
“I think now is the right time to step up and hopefully get the experience I need.”
The England Under-19 international added: “My main attribute is getting stuck in. I like to get a few tackles in and break up the play. I’ve had some coaching from Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt - and we train with players like Michael Carrick every day, so there’s plenty of people you can learn off.
“All the senior players are great with the younger players. You’re never phased when you speak to people like Fletch [Darren Fletcher] and [Wayne] Rooney. They’re always trying to help you.”
And Reds boss Danny Wilson is confident the club’s supporters won’t take long to take to Pearson: “Ben is one of a few players we’ve asked about at Manchester United, he’s got a lot of tenacity about him and is highly rated there,” said Wilson ahead of today’s home clash with Yeovil Town.
“From his perspective I’m sure he’s thinking that getting some good league experience will put him good stead.”
“He’s got at least a month to come here to get himself some confidence and enjoy himself.
“And I’m sure the fans will enjoy the way he plays.”
