A first half penalty from Zeph Thomas and two second half goals from Brad Grayson saw the Blues comfortably defeat Sutton Coldfield Town.

Thomas scored from the spot in the 35th minute after Tyler Williams had been brought down whilst Grayson followed up a Jacob Hazel shot in the 60th minute to double the Blues’ lead, and added another with a well executed finish on 70 minutes.

Grayson went close in only the fifth minute but his header from six yards was diverted away from goal by Matthews for a corner.

Joel Kettle came agonisingly close to knocking the ball into his own net from 15 yards six minutes later as he cut out a Thomas cross that was aimed for Hazel.

On 27 minutes Sutton’s Malcolm Melvin forced Sebastian Malkowski into his first save of the game, collecting his shot from 18 yards.

Eight minutes later the Blues took the lead as Williams was bundled over inside the box by Milton Loureiro and Thomas stepped up to confidently send Wren the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Sutton responded just before the break with Kyle Bryant hitting a dipping 20 yard volley over the bar after a deep free-kick had been headed clear.

The Blues soon settled and Williams sent Hazel down the left on 53 minutes with him firing in a low angled shot which Wren deflected into the path of the onrushing Thomas who could only lift the ball over from three yards.

Malkowski saved well from Goddard on 56 minutes before the Blues doubled their lead on the hour mark.

Williams played Hazel into space on the left of the box and his shot from a tight angle came back off the post for Grayson to react quickest from eight yards.

Grayson extended the Blues lead further when he controlled a cross-field pass from Williams on his chest to take the ball inside the box and lash an angled shot past Wren and into the roof of the net from 8 yards.

The win saw the Blues cement their mid-table position, moving up to 12th.
