Parkgate 2 Hall Road Rangers 0

Parkgate returned to winning ways after a run of three straight defeats, with a 2-0 win at a sun-soaked Hall Road Rangers.

In the first half, Parkgate’s Rob Poulter was the busier of the two goalkeepers, with John Slater’s free-kick a particular test.

When Poulter was eventually beaten, however, Ryan Johnson was on hand to deflect Eddie Birch’s shot to safety.

A Parkgate free-kick was then half punched away by Rangers’ Richard Watson, and when Lee Hill lobbed the goalkeeper, defender Alex Knaggs cleared off the line.

The game was sealed by two Parkgate goals in the second half.

After a pretty even first half, Parkgate took control of the second period and Rangers had very few attempts to break them down.

Parkgate made their dominance pay just before the hour mark, when Craig Fletcher met a Lee Hill cross and put the ball away with his second touch.

Martin Lee should have done better when he sliced his shot across the face of the goal, but he then made amends with a magnificent finish for Parkgate’s second goal.

Lee broke away on the Parkgate right, leaving the rangers defenders stranded before doubling the Parkgate lead.

As the game drew to a close, the score could have been 3-1 as both team rattled the crossbar in the final minutes.
