Gap widens after edging thriller

Doncaster and District Senior Football League

AFC SPORTSMAN Rovers opened up a seven point lead at the summit of the Premier Division after edging the top of the table clash with Retford Town 2-1.

Defences dominated the first half but Paul Hemmingway put Rovers ahead and struck again after Retford had managed to equalise.

An own goal led to Swinton Station Athletic going down 2-0 at Rossington Main.

A Callum Hardy goal was the only reward for South Elmsall United Services as they crashed 4-1 at Division One Carcroft Village in the FA Challenge Cup second round.

Former Frickley Athletic player Ian Thompson struck a hat trick of penalties when Division One leaders Upton Brookside beat neighbours Travellers FC 6-3.

Luke Smith’s brace and a Craig Martin strike double the Brookside tally while Ricky Gaskell grabbed a hat trick in response.

Hemsworth Town came out on top 5-2 against Bawtry Town Reserves with Kyle Lacy striking twice and Luke Heppinstall, Chris Roberts and Michael Horbury also on target.

A brace of goals from Lee Carrington set Hemsworth MW on the way to a 4-1 win at Ackworth United with Kev Taylor and Neil Pickersgill also on target.
